Ethical Standards
The Texas Progressive Policy Institute for African American Engagement (TPPI) is guided by a set of ethical principles that reflect our mission, our values, and our commitment to the communities we serve. These standards ensure that our work remains credible, responsible, and aligned with our goal of helping leaders build stronger and more authentic relationships with African American Texans.
Progressive Values and Public Good
TPPI promotes a progressive vision for Texas that expands opportunity, protects civil and human rights, and improves the quality of life for all people. We support leaders who work to move communities forward and oppose policies or practices that seek to restrict access, limit freedoms, or divide the public.
Independence and Non-Endorsement
Although we work closely with candidates and policymakers, TPPI does not endorse or promote individual candidates. Our role is to provide guidance, insight, and cultural fluency tools that help leaders communicate effectively and responsibly. This independence allows us to maintain credibility and provide honest, community-centered feedback.
Transparency and Accountability
We are committed to clear communication about our mission, structure, and work. TPPI operates with internal policies that prioritize transparency in how we engage with leaders, how we develop resources, and how we manage information. This includes clear boundaries around confidentiality and responsible use of data and community insights.
Respect for Community Knowledge
Our work is informed by the lived experiences of African American Texans. We treat community wisdom as essential and approach every engagement with humility and respect. We avoid extractive or performative practices and remain accountable to the people and communities whose trust we seek to honor.
Confidentiality and Trust
Leaders who seek support from TPPI deserve a safe and honest space to ask questions, address concerns, and grow. All consultations, strategy sessions, and training interactions are handled confidentially. This approach allows leaders to engage fully and gain the clarity they need to serve their communities with confidence.
Integrity in Communication
We provide accurate, honest, and relevant information based on the best available data and community insight. TPPI does not manipulate information for political advantage. We prioritize clarity, cultural accuracy, and truth in all messaging guidance and analysis.
Commitment to Continuous Learning
Cultural fluency is not a destination. It is an ongoing practice. We commit to learning, adapting, and improving so that our support reflects changing demographics, evolving community needs, and the realities of leadership in Texas. We encourage the leaders we work with to share this same commitment.
