WHAT THE LAB IS

The Cultural Fluency Lab gives leaders a place to ask difficult questions, learn from community insight, and build confidence in unfamiliar cultural spaces. Participants explore how language, history, and lived experience shape community responses to policy and political outreach. This is more than training. It is an immersive approach that helps leaders overcome anxiety, confront unconscious biases, and engage with greater comfort and authenticity.

The Lab promotes awareness of the issues and concerns that shape daily life, civic participation, trust in government, and community well-being. Leaders enter the Lab not as experts, but as partners who are willing to learn, listen, and explore unfamiliar perspectives in a supportive, judgment-free environment. This is a place where genuine questions can be asked and real answers can be explored with honesty, clarity, and respect.

REMOVING  BARRIERS

Too often, anxiety or fear of saying the wrong thing keeps leaders from engaging deeply with the communities they want to serve. The Cultural Fluency Lab removes that barrier. Through guided conversation, community-informed insight, and real-world scenarios, participants gain the confidence to show up authentically and connect with African American constituents in ways that are meaningful and lasting.

MEMBER SUPPORT

Some participants may need help with message testing or policy framing. Others may need support navigating unfamiliar cultural contexts or understanding why certain language resonates while other language harms. Whether the need is strategic or deeply personal, the Lab adapts to the individual. This personalized approach helps leaders build trust, develop authentic relationships, and move with greater clarity, confidence and credibility.
